To my dear Secret Santa

Dear Secret Santa,

You did not have to sign up for a Secret Santa over at Wife of a Sailor and spend money that I know as a fellow milspouse is tight no matter what rank or profession either you and your husband have.

You did not have to think of some random person on the other side of the country and go out and purchase something that could not have come at a better time.

You didn’t have to.

But you did.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Seeing your city (my former city) on the return address made me smile.

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful and safe New Year!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #18

So over on Wife of a Sailor, Wife posts questions for other bloggers to answer on their own military spouse blogs. (Still with me so far?) And since we just got home from the gymnastics studio and everyone is finally in bed, I thought this might be fun to fill out because even though I have a sub job tomorrow I don’t have to be there super early. Woo hoo! Do I see a bagel in my future tomorrow morning? (YES, AGAIN!)

1. My favorite thing that happened this week was…

the feeling of pure gratitude on Tuesday morning. I survived subbing four days in a row last week but just barely. Not an easy task to do alone with three kids who have school, homework, gymnastics, and catechism! Eeek! I remembered feeling good after lifting weights and about to start Zumba. I felt so grateful to not only still be working but to have the flexibility to NOT accept sub jobs when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

In fact, I’m grateful that I’m feeling overwhelmed. I’m grateful that I can take a step back from it all and not only reflect on what’s going on in my life but have the freedom to do something about it. I’d be deeply worried if I was so busy and so in over my head that I didn’t feel ANYTHING, if that makes any sense.

Also my husband had to go to training in North Carolina. He’s happy about it so I am too.

2. Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you’ll…

Regret it unless you find two other pennies! I always gave my husband this advice, “If you don’t have three of whatever you’re buying or can’t split it evenly three ways, don’t bring it home!” You can never tell when the kids will make a deal about stuff being even or fair; it’s best not to broach the subject at all.

3. Autumn is officially here and my favorite part of the season is…

the weather. I love crisp air in the mornings and seeing your breath when you exhale. I’m sure the weather that I’ve dealt with in the past decade is nothing compared to whatever extreme temps you live in but fall weather is such a relief from the summer sun. You knew it was fall when you’d get a whiff of the smoke from someone’s chimney. Unfortunately everyone’s got fake fireplaces here so we’ll have to put that fire pit together for this winter!

4. One of the things I’d like to do before winter arrives is…

declutter again. It’s so sad but I made such a big freaking deal about decluttering a few months ago and alas, I need to do it again. I don’t think it will take as long but I gotta do it before hubby gets home just so it’s one less thing for all of us to worry about.

5. I *W*O*U*L*D* be willing to participate in MilSpouse Secret Santa.

I have no idea what to expect and while I think some people may have had a bad experience, I’d love the chance to make someone smile anonymously.
Though really I don’t have to do much, right? You smile every time I post!

LOL! Have a wonderful weekend! Before you go, what made YOU smile today?
